How do I minimise paper waste?

Try both orientations of your piece on the sheet. Sometimes rotating the piece 90 degrees yields more pieces. Also consider whether a slightly different piece size could eliminate waste strips.

Should I account for blade width?

If using a guillotine or rotary cutter, the blade removes a tiny strip (typically 0.5-1 mm). For small pieces this can add up. For most craft cutting, blade width is negligible.

What are standard paper sizes in mm?

A4 is 210 x 297 mm, A3 is 297 x 420 mm, A2 is 420 x 594 mm, and A1 is 594 x 841 mm. SRA3 (320 x 450 mm) is a common oversized sheet for print trimming.

How We Calculate This

The calculator checks both orientations of your desired piece on the parent sheet and reports the arrangement that yields the most pieces.

For each orientation it calculates: columns = floor(sheet width / piece width) and rows = floor(sheet height / piece height), then total pieces = columns x rows.

Blade width (kerf) is added to piece dimensions when calculating fitting, but not to the finished piece size. Waste percentage is based on the unused sheet area.
