How many cords do I need for a wall hanging?

How long should I cut each cord?

Each cord is folded in half and mounted with a lark's head knot. Cut each cord at 8 times the finished knotted length plus twice the fringe length. This calculator does this maths for you.

What size dowel should I use?

The dowel should be 5-15 cm wider than the hanging on each side for a balanced look. Use 12-20 mm diameter for small/medium hangings and 20-30 mm for large pieces. Driftwood adds a natural aesthetic.
