What is a flash point and why does it matter?

The flash point is the temperature at which fragrance oil can ignite if exposed to a spark or flame. You must add fragrance oil to wax that has cooled below the flash point of the fragrance. Most candle fragrance oils have flash points between 60-90°C.

Can I exceed the recommended fragrance load?

No. Exceeding the maximum load causes the wax to reject the fragrance, leading to sweating, poor scent throw and potential safety issues. A stronger scent comes from proper wick sizing and curing, not overloading fragrance.

Each wax type has a maximum fragrance load percentage. The calculator multiplies your wax weight by the desired load percentage, caps it at the maximum for that wax type, and converts to both grams and millilitres. It also compares the fragrance flash point to your pour temperature for safety.
