How many fragrances can I blend?

Most candle makers blend 2–4 fragrances for best results. More than 4 can create muddy, undefined scents. Start with 2–3 complementary fragrances and test small batches first.

What ratios work best for blending?

A common approach is the perfume pyramid: 50% base note (vanilla, sandalwood), 30% middle note (cinnamon, lavender), 20% top note (citrus, peppermint). Adjust to taste after cold and hot throw testing.

What is a flashpoint and why does it matter?

Flashpoint is the temperature at which a fragrance oil can ignite. If your pour temperature exceeds the flashpoint, the fragrance can flash off (evaporate rapidly) or pose a fire risk. Always check individual oil flashpoints.

How do I test my blend?

Make a small test candle (50–100g wax) and burn it after 48 hours of curing. Evaluate cold throw (unlit scent) and hot throw (burning scent). Adjust ratios based on which notes are too strong or too weak.

Per fragrance = Total x (Ratio / Sum of all ratios)
Remaining capacity = 12% max possible - Actual total

Ratios are relative \u2014 50:30:20 gives the same result as 5:3:2. The calculator normalises them automatically.
